Pursuant to Maryland Regulations 10.07.14.02B(10) an assisted living provider is defined as: A residential or facility-based provider that provides housing and supportive services, supervision, personalized assistance, health-related services, or a combination of these services to meet the needs of residents who are unable to perform, or who need assistance in performing, the activities of daily living or instrumental activities of daily living, in a way that promotes optimum dignity and independence for the residents. Essentially, assisted living provides care to its residents who are having difficulty living independently. Families that feel that there loved ones safety is at jeopardy should consider moving them to a safe and comfortable environment that provides intimate and personalized service. Assisted living communities should provide nutritious meals every day in a social and communal environment for a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, many elders are not able to maintain their medical appointments or it is dangerous for them to drive. Many, however, do not recognize dangers associated with elder driving a vehicle when they have health problems or when they are on medications. Assisted living communities can provide regular group or individual transportation to shopping malls, doctor’s appointments, or visitation with their loved ones. By choosing to live in an assisted living, neither the residents nor the family members have to worry about daily chores, maintenance, daily expense, or homecare staff. All these problems are addressed when seniors live in a secure, comfortable, and home-like environment. Furthermore, absence of others, even if a spousal relationship is intact can create vacuum of socialization – leading to mental and physical deterioration. Assisted living communities through daily social programs stimulate mental reasoning and provide basic physical exercise for healthy living. Potomac Seniors Village as an assisted living community which provides an upscale living environment for residents to enjoy luxury living. Our community can cater to a variety of needs required by our residents and fulfill desired meal plans unlike a facility-based or institutionalized environment. Because each resident is different and requires particularized plans, activities of daily living assistance are based on their habits, personality, and desires. As a Community, we do not believe that an assisted living environment should be an institution which lacks freedom, independence, and dignity. In our community, dressing, bathing, and meals are provided according to each resident’s schedule, and not based on staff schedule or availability. Resident’s can enjoy certain meals in their room. Potomac Seniors Village is classified as a residential based provider licensed to provide the highest Level of Care authorized by the State of Maryland. Currently, our Community can accommodate up to 15 residents. Through our 2 to 1 staff to resident ratio, Potomac Seniors Village provides the residents: (1) Comfort, (2) Security, (3) Nutritious meals, (4) Transportation, (5) Socialization program, (6) Intimate environment in a resort style setting, and (7) Relief for resident’s family members. When shopping for a prospective Assisted Living community, this checklist will help to ensure that you ask the necessary questions, allowing you to make an informed decision.
[1] We do not recommend that the family members request us to provide meals in resident’s rooms. This is because socialization through communal setting provides mental stimulation and natural speech therapy. |
